THE LAST REPAIR SHOP (here) is a new award-winning documentary that captures the value and art of restoring good function. Both the repairers and young players of musical instruments find hope in themselves and value in what they can do.
While the children describe their love for their instruments, the repairers describe their personal lives. “A lot of people see a broken thing and they just think it’s broken”, but a repairer thinks “oh, with a little something here or there we can make things whole again. It’s one of the best things humans do. It could change their whole life. Even if they (the children) don’t know me, I play a part”.
Living Well Locally sees great value in repairing things that are broken: people, the places where they live, the planet that gives life to both.
We also affirm the beauty and value of being the repairers.
While technologists seek to save a damaged world with new innovations in medicine and engineering, LWL believes we already have the tools to restore human health to good function and the natural world to ecological balance.
We believe lifestyle-based medicine and regenerative agriculture, applied at the community level (previously written about here), will reclaim what has been damaged and broken. By learning why we are sick, we also learn how to heal, how to care for our homes and children, and how our everyday choices create a culture of health for others.
It is a precious gift to be both the instrument and the repairer. We humans are both.
The Last Repair Shop is in Los Angeles. Humans live on planet Earth. Repairing “is one of the best things humans do”.
I love that! Thank you, I will check out the film. Repairing is a valuable art. And duct tape can do wonders too. Repair and share!
